According to Reuters, on July 28, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) banned imports of new Chinese humanoid robots, quadruped robots, and grid-tied inverters effective immediately, aiming to reduce national security and cybersecurity risks to U.S. AI, data centers, and critical infrastructure. The ban applies only to future products; existing equipment with prior FCC certification remains unaffected, though the agency reserves the right to revoke approvals. Chinese robotics manufacturer Unitree currently commands nearly 20% of the global humanoid robot market, while China leads global grid-tied inverter production through suppliers including Sungrow and Huawei.
