FAO Warns Strait of Hormuz Disruptions Risk Global Food Security Crisis

GateNews
On May 26, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu warned that shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are inflicting systemic damage to the global agricultural system, potentially triggering a severe food security crisis within years if action is not taken. The organization stated that constrained Hormuz traffic has disrupted oil, liquefied natural gas, and fertilizer shipments, driving up agricultural input costs. With seed production dependent on fertilizer, seed prices face upward pressure, while surging energy costs have increased operating expenses across global agricultural systems.
