ETH is down 0.22% within 4 hours: institutional accumulation combined with extremely thin liquidity is putting short-term pressure on the market

From 12:00 to 16:00 (UTC) on July 27, 2026, the ETH price dipped slightly by 0.22%. The trading range was 1955.31–1964.37 USDT, with a 0.46% amplitude. Although ETH gained a cumulative ~3.61% over the past 24 hours and led the crypto market, the last ~4 hours of the order book show a clear weakening of upward momentum, with extremely shallow bid/ask depth drawing market attention.

The main driver behind this move appears to be the resonance between institutions continuously accumulating and a rebound in market risk appetite. Bitmine Immersion increased its holdings by nearly 10,000 ETH last week, bringing total holdings to more than 5.7 million ETH—sending a signal that institutions remain bullish long term. Meanwhile, BTC reclaimed above $65,000, and easing Iran tensions pushed oil prices down, improving overall risk sentiment. As a result, ETH outperformed the broader market in this rebound. However, with order book depth extremely thin—fewer than 7 units per level on both the buy and sell sides, and fewer than 12 total orders—price volatility may be amplified in a low-liquidity environment. This also helps explain the narrowing gains over the past ~4 hours and even raises the possibility of a flip into negative territory.

On the technical side, the 4-hour RSI has entered the overbought zone, and the 15-minute moving averages have turned bearish for downside, creating short-term pullback pressure. The 1-hour ADX is as high as 64.8, indicating strong trend momentum on the hourly timeframe, but mean reversion after overbought conditions should be watched closely. The medium-term trend structure has not yet been broken, and moving averages still lean bullish.

On risk warnings, watch whether ETH can break above $1,981 (the 24h high). If it fails to break effectively, it may retrace toward the $1,943 support. With liquidity in the order book extremely thin, large orders could trigger sharp volatility. The 24h Filled Amount data is missing, so subsequent volume expansion will be needed to validate the rally’s sustainability. This week’s U.S. stock earnings season and the yield direction of the 10-year Treasury will also affect crypto risk appetite—investors are advised to monitor ETF fund flows and Layer2 ecosystem progress.
