According to Ars Technica, as of today, ChatGPT is refusing to generate text that directly mimics the exact style of famous authors. When tested with requests to write in the style of Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, and other writers, the LLM declined, instead offering to capture a "similar feeling" while remaining distinct in its own voice. An analysis published by No Latency earlier this month found ChatGPT applied this approach to living authors but complied with style-copying requests for deceased authors. The shift may have legal significance as OpenAI faces multiple copyright infringement lawsuits from authors alleging unauthorized training on their work.
