Democratic Republic of Congo Classifies Lithium as Strategic Mineral, Imposing 10% Royalty Rate

GateNews
According to the Democratic Republic of Congo's Ministry of Mines, in a recent cabinet meeting, the government designated lithium, tantalum, niobium, tungsten, uranium, and rare earths as strategic minerals. Under the country's mining law, strategic minerals are subject to a 10% royalty fee, compared to 3.5% for conventional base metals, effectively tripling the tax burden on lithium miners. Cobalt, germanium, and coltan were previously designated as strategic minerals.
