Dean Ball Joins OpenAI to Lead Strategic Futures Policy Team on July 6

According to Beating, Dean Ball, former White House AI advisor and senior researcher at the Foundation for American Innovation (FAI), announced joining OpenAI on July 6 as head of the newly created Strategic Futures team. Ball will report directly to OpenAI Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon while retaining his FAI position.

The Strategic Futures team will focus on shaping frontier AI policy and internal governance, covering catastrophic risk mitigation, large model recursive self-improvement, technology's labor market impact, and stakeholder communications with the U.S. federal government. The team will coordinate across technical development, safety preparedness, legal, and national security divisions.
