Consensys Unknowingly Granted North Korean-Linked Developer Month-Long System Access

According to Drop Site, Consensys unknowingly granted a software developer linked to North Korea system access for approximately one month earlier this year. The developer, operating under the alias Tyler Knapp, was introduced to the company through a third-party service provider and worked as a consultant before the threat was discovered.

Consensys General Counsel Matt Corva confirmed to Cointelegraph that the company immediately terminated access and launched a comprehensive investigation, which found no misappropriation of assets or data, no malicious code deployment, and no impact to user security. The incident reflects a broader pattern of North Korean hacking groups targeting digital asset companies through fraudulent job offers to gain developer access. Consensys said it will reevaluate its outsourcing practices for engineering and development work.
