According to Circle, the stablecoin issuer acquired IBM's blockchain patent portfolio on July 27, comprising over 680 patent families and nearly 1,000 issued patents worldwide. The acquisition makes Circle the largest blockchain patent holder in the United States. The deal covers foundational blockchain technology, banking, financial services, supply chain verification, and cloud operations. Circle's USDC stablecoin had a supply of $74 billion as of July 27, and CRCL shares rose over 5% following the announcement, according to The Block.
