China's STAR 50 Index Plunges 7.7% on July 2, Shanghai Composite Falls 2.03%

According to Financial Services, China's three major stock indices declined sharply on July 2. The STAR 50 Index (Sci-Tech Innovation Board's benchmark) plummeted 7.7%, while the Shanghai Composite Index fell 2.03% and the Shenzhen Component Index dropped 3.85%. The ChiNext Index (growth-focused index) declined 5.71%. Combined turnover across Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges reached 3.45 trillion yuan. Semiconductor equipment stocks faced sustained pressure, with robotics hardware shares falling broadly; however, innovative pharmaceutical stocks rallied, offsetting broader market weakness.
