According to Xinhua, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on May 26 at a UN Security Council high-level meeting that China supports the United Nations playing a greater role in politically resolving hotspot issues and proposes establishing a comprehensive mediation model involving the UN, regional organizations, stakeholders, and professional institutions.
Wang also called for accelerating climate action with regular audits and accountability mechanisms for climate finance and technology transfer commitments. He emphasized timely establishment of UN-centered regulatory frameworks to address ethical and security risks posed by artificial intelligence technology, and advocated for comprehensive solutions in governance of space, polar regions, and cyberspace to prevent these new domains from becoming lawless zones for zero-sum competition.
