China to Strengthen Innovation in Battery Materials, Officials Say on June 30

According to an official from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) at the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance 2026 forum on June 30, the country will strengthen innovation in advanced battery materials including lithium-rich manganese-based cathodes, silicon-based anodes, and solid-state electrolytes. Ma Chunsheng, director of the Automotive Development Division under MIIT's Equipment Industry Department, stated that the global new energy vehicle industry has entered a new stage of accelerated development, demanding higher standards for battery safety, environmental performance, and durability.
