According to Foresight News, Canton Network announced that Logical Synchronizer Upgrades (LSU) went live on mainnet with the Canton 3.5 release. The mechanism allows new synchronizer infrastructure to run parallel with the existing network, enabling automatic network transition in seconds to minutes without data migration, keeping applications running continuously.
The upgrade process involves synchronizer operators deploying next-generation nodes before the upgrade window, validators installing new software that supports both old and new protocol versions, and chain governance scheduling the upgrade timeline. Upon receiving the switch signal, validators automatically complete the transition by detecting the new synchronizer and verifying consistency. Legacy infrastructure will be deprecated after 30 days. Since mainnet launch in 2024, Canton Network has completed four protocol upgrades; LSU aims to streamline maintenance operations and reduce impact on developers and users.
