Brazil's Central Bank Classifies VASP as Class 3 Institutions, Effective January 1, 2027

According to ChainCatcher, Brazil's Central Bank issued Resolution 580/2026 on July 3, classifying virtual asset service providers (VASP) as Class 3 institutions subject to the same regulatory requirements as securities brokers and foreign exchange brokers. The classification takes effect on January 1, 2027, requiring VASP to comply with prudential standards including risk management rules, capital requirements, and disclosure policies. By June 30, 2028, all VASP regardless of size will be reclassified to the Class 4 segment and will no longer be eligible for simplified compliance procedures available to low-risk institutions in Class 5.
