Bank of Korea Projects Continued Semiconductor Expansion, Current Cycle Exceeds 40-Month Mark on July 29

According to the Bank of Korea's report submitted to the Finance and Economy Committee on July 29, the central bank projects global semiconductor demand will remain in expansion for a considerable period, driven by artificial intelligence applications and related infrastructure investments. The current semiconductor expansion cycle has lasted 40 months since March 2023, surpassing the average of 29 months across five prior expansion periods between 2000 and 2020. High-performance custom chips including HBM and demand from AI servers are supporting the cycle amid tight supply conditions.
