According to The Information, Apple is actively evaluating the acquisition of chip companies to accelerate the development of AI server processors and strengthen its artificial intelligence infrastructure capabilities, the company disclosed on July 16.
Apple's current AI servers use its own-designed M2 Ultra chips, but the overall computing power does not fully meet the company's requirements. Earlier this year, during the upgrade of Siri, Apple tested running Google's Gemini large language model on internal servers but found that Mac architecture chips could not handle large model computations, forcing some new Siri features to run on Nvidia chips via Google Cloud infrastructure instead.
