Anthropic Refuses to Fix Fable Jailbreak Vulnerability, U.S. Imposes Export Controls on June 14

According to David Sacks, White House AI and Crypto Affairs Lead, Anthropic this week released its Fable model with safety guardrails, but researchers discovered a jailbreak method that bypasses the protections, enabling access to advanced cyberattack capabilities. Sacks said a trusted partner tested Fable and identified the vulnerability, after which the U.S. government requested Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei fix it or delist the model. Anthropic refused, claiming the flaw was not serious—a position contradicting government and partner assessments. In response, the U.S. government imposed export controls on Anthropic, stating Fable can resume full deployment once the company resolves the security issue.
