Anthropic Plans $15B Australian Data Center With 1.4GW Capacity, Targeting 1GW Launch by End of 2027

According to Australian Financial Review, Anthropic plans to deploy 1.4GW of data center capacity in Australia with $15 billion in investment, targeting at least 1GW operational by the end of 2027. The infrastructure scale is equivalent to multiple large nuclear power plants and would support tens of thousands of top-tier AI accelerators running at full capacity, making it among the largest single AI infrastructure investments globally.

Anthropaic chose Australia following expansion obstacles in the United States, where power shortages and community opposition have stalled domestic data center projects. Australia offers land, energy, and climate advantages, with policy risks reduced following a March AI cooperation agreement with the Australian government.
