Anthropic Engineering Team: Only 13.7% Hold PhDs, Google Largest Talent Source

According to LinkedIn data monitored by Beating, Anthropic employed 1,141 engineers as of mid-2026, with only 13.7% holding doctoral degrees. The team experienced explosive growth in 2025, adding 686 engineers, and recruited an additional 455 in the first half of 2026. Currently, 53% of staff joined within the past year, with a median industry experience of 12.2 years; 44% have over 13 years of professional background.

Google is the largest talent source, with 405 engineers previously employed there. Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft also supply significant talent, with half the team having experience at major tech firms (FAANG). Additionally, 94 engineers transitioned directly from OpenAI or DeepMind. The engineering background is heavily skewed toward infrastructure (40%), with backend development, distributed systems, databases, and security each comprising roughly 20%.
