Anthropic Co-Founder Warns AI-Driven Job Losses Are Real Risk, Calls for Social Support on May 25

According to BlockBeats, Anthropic co-founder and research lead Chris Olah warned on Monday (May 25) at the Vatican that large-scale job displacement from artificial intelligence is a real possibility that society must prepare for. Olah emphasized that AI governance should not be left solely to industry insiders, and called for external oversight from religious institutions, governments, and civil society organizations.

On the same day, Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical, "Magnifica Humanitas," which discusses AI's impact on employment, warfare, education, privacy, and human dignity, and warns against entrusting "lethal decisions" to AI systems. Separately, Anthropic is seeking additional funding at a target valuation of approximately $900 billion, up from its current valuation of roughly $380 billion.
