xAI Tax Training Program Faces Delayed Payments

OliverGrant

Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI asked employees in March to share tax returns and supporting documents to train Grok on tax tasks before the April 15 US filing deadline, according to Bloomberg. The company offered participants US$420 and early access to X Money in exchange for their participation.

Internal chats showed that xAI later expanded the request beyond employees to family members and friends who had used accountants. However, two months after the initial request, some participants still had not been paid, according to the report.

The payment delays occurred amid broader changes at xAI, including layoffs and management transitions. The issue echoes a separate project from the previous year called Macrohard, which also offered bonuses for employee training data but experienced payment delays.
