According to Beating, xAI launched Grok Custom Voices and Voice Library, allowing users to record one minute of audio in the xAI console to generate a custom voice_id for use with Grok TTS and Voice Agent APIs. The feature supports applications including customer service agents, content creation, game characters, and audiobook narration.
The voice cloning process includes verification: users must read a validation phrase, which the system transcribes in real-time and compares against the full recording to confirm speaker identity before generating the voice. The console allows up to 30 free custom voices; API creation is available only to Enterprise teams. Custom Voices is currently available in the U.S. excluding Illinois. API usage is metered separately.
