According to posts on X, a pseudonymous user claimed Anthropic’s Claude AI helped recover a Bitcoin wallet containing 5 BTC worth roughly $400,000 on May 13. The user, “Cprkrn,” said Claude assisted in analyzing encrypted files and identifying a mnemonic phrase from a notebook, unlocking access to a wallet that had been inactive since 2015. The viral thread generated more than 6 million views.
Wallet recovery experts disputed the claim, noting the screenshots showed AI-assisted file analysis rather than Claude bypassing Bitcoin’s encryption. One expert told Decrypt that Claude likely sorted historical data to identify password clues rather than “cracking” credentials. The posts also faced skepticism on Reddit, with users arguing the recovery process relied more on the wallet file and mnemonic phrase the user already possessed than on Claude itself.
