According to blockchain security firm Blockaid, the Verus-Ethereum Bridge was exploited on Wednesday, with attackers draining approximately $7.54 million in crypto assets through the same vulnerability class used in the protocol's May breach. The attacker abused the bridge's import path to trigger unbacked Ethereum-side payouts, siphoning ETH, tBTC, USDC, USDT, EURC, MKR, and scrvUSD before converting stolen assets into 3,916.1 ETH and depositing proceeds into Tornado Cash. Security firm CertiK confirmed losses at approximately $7.53 million. Blockaid noted the exploit was carried out by a different attacker than the May incident, using the same bridge contract and vulnerability class but a new loot wallet.
