U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent Threatens Sanctions Against Chinese Companies for IP Theft via Refinement Attacks

According to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, speaking on social media recently, he stated support for open-source AI and its innovations, but cautioned that open-source is not a justification for infringing on U.S. intellectual property. If Chinese companies conduct covert, industrial-scale refinement attacks that constitute intellectual property theft, the U.S. will consider imposing sanctions and adding them to the Entity List.
