According to a U.S. Southern Command statement, Commander Francis Donovan met with Cuban Deputy Minister of Armed Forces Roberto Legra Sotolongo and other senior Cuban military leaders on May 29 in the vicinity of Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. The two sides exchanged views on operational security matters. Donovan also led an assessment of the base's surrounding security situation and discussed troop protection, personnel safety, and combat readiness with base officials.
