U.S. Labor Force Participation Falls to 61.5% in June, Lowest Since 1976

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the labor force participation rate dropped to 61.5% in June, marking the lowest level since March 2021 and the lowest since June 1976 when excluding the COVID-19 pandemic period. The decline in the unemployment rate was driven by workers exiting the labor market rather than job creation. The labor force shrank by 720,000 in June.
