U.S. Crypto Adoption Rises to 10% in 2025, Up 2 Percentage Points, Still Below 2021's 12%

According to the Federal Reserve's 2025 Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking (SHED), released in May, 10% of U.S. adults used or invested in cryptocurrencies in 2025, up 2 percentage points from 2024 but below the 12% recorded in 2021.

Of those, 9% bought or held crypto as an investment, 2% used it for purchases or payments, and 1% for transfers to friends or family. The report also noted that 6% of unbanked adults used crypto for financial transactions, compared to 2% among those with bank accounts.
