TSMC Chairman Wei Says Competitors' 10-Year Catch-Up Goal is 'Just Daydreaming'

According to TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei during remarks after the shareholder meeting on June 14, competitors claiming they can catch up with TSMC within a decade are "just daydreaming." Wei emphasized that Taiwan's semiconductor advantage stems from decades of accumulated industrial ecosystem that cannot be easily replicated in the short term. He highlighted that TSMC's core competitiveness remains in Taiwan, supported by a complete value chain spanning advanced chipmaking, packaging, testing, and assembly, alongside suppliers like Foxconn, Asus, and Wistron. Wei reiterated confidence that Taiwan will maintain its critical role in the global AI wave, noting that rivals have made similar catch-up claims for over 20 years without success.
