Trump Signs Quantum Computing Executive Orders Requiring Quantum-Resistant Systems by 2031

According to the Wall Street Journal, on June 23, President Trump signed two executive orders aimed at accelerating quantum computing development and mitigating security risks. One order requires federal agencies, including the Energy Department, to work with private and academic sectors to deploy a quantum computer capable of scientific research by 2028. The second order requires agencies to develop quantum-resistant systems by 2031—two years earlier than the Biden administration's prior 2035 target—with priority focus on critical infrastructure including utilities and water facilities.
