According to U.S. media reports, on May 16, the Trump administration’s Interior Department announced a streamlined permitting process for oil projects in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve, targeting a 30-day review and approval timeline for eligible projects. The initiative aims to accelerate crude production in the U.S. Arctic region and would benefit companies holding leases in the reserve, including ConocoPhillips, Santos, and Repsol, with projects such as ConocoPhillips’ Willow undergoing faster government review.

The move coincides with the Iran conflict, during which approximately 20% of global oil supply has been disrupted in the Persian Gulf, prompting the administration to push U.S. oil companies to increase production.
