Trump Administration Declares Emergency Order for PJM Grid Amid Record Heat Wave, Affects 67M People

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, on Tuesday the Trump administration declared an emergency order for the PJM Interconnection LLC, the nation's largest power grid, authorizing maximum-load generation and allowing exemptions from certain environmental requirements. The PJM grid serves 67 million people across 13 states. A second DOE order authorized the PJM region to activate backup generators as a last resort. Both orders remain in effect through 11:59 p.m. ET on July 3.
