Trezor Exec Pushes Back on ZachXBT's 'Complete Garbage' Hardware Wallet Claim This Week

According to The Block, blockchain investigator ZachXBT claimed earlier this week that all hardware wallets are "complete garbage" and advised against using them for storing funds or signing transactions, instead recommending a dedicated iPhone.

Trezor Chief Commercial Officer Danny Sanders pushed back Friday, acknowledging frustrations with hardware wallet friction but arguing ZachXBT was overgeneralizing from sophisticated, high-value use cases. "It's really hard to build on the edge of security and usability," Sanders said, adding that hardware wallets remain "the strongest form of self-custody" for average crypto holders due to their separate verification screen and reduced attack surface compared to mobile devices.

Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm partially sided with ZachXBT, noting the real gap is the lack of mobile wallets supporting BIP39 passphrases for enhanced seed phrase security.
