Tesla Plunges 30% This Year, SpaceX Down 50% Since IPO; Korean Retail Investors Face Losses on $22B Musk Bet

According to Korean securities depository Savero, Tesla and SpaceX posted sharp declines on July 27, with Korean retail investors facing significant losses on their roughly $22 billion combined holdings in Elon Musk's companies. Tesla shares fell 30% year-to-date to $313.03 from $438 at the start of 2026, while SpaceX dropped roughly 50% from its post-IPO peak to $115 after listing at $135 last month.

Tesla's decline stems from intensified EV competition reducing profit margins, and heightened uncertainty around its AI and robotaxi ventures. Q2 revenue rose 26% year-over-year to $28.36 billion, but operating margins compressed on price cuts; cash flow turned negative for the first time in two years due to heavy capex spending on AI and robotics, while commercialization timelines for Robotaxi and Optimus humanoid robot were pushed back.
