Syscoin Bridge Flaw Causes 5 Billion SYS Unauthorized Release; Funds Destroyed, Protocol Repairs Underway

According to its latest security report, Syscoin disclosed a UTXO-to-NEVM bridge vulnerability that resulted in approximately 5 billion SYS being unauthorized released on the UTXO side. The affected funds were recovered and subsequently destroyed via standard OP_RETURN method, removing them from future protocol use. On-chain SYS supply has been restored to expected levels. The bridge function currently remains paused as the team completes final review and fixes. Syscoin stated it will address cross-layer parsing defects, emphasizing that cross-layer systems must implement unified data normalization and treat any ambiguous bridge proofs as defaulting to failure.
