Startale CEO Urges Japan to Cut 55% DeFi Tax Rate and Unify Yen Stablecoins on Soneium

Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Group and board member of the Japan Blockchain Association, urged Japan to reduce the 55% tax rate on decentralized finance yields to prevent capital flight, according to Bitcoin.com News. Currently, DeFi rewards and staking income face progressive taxation up to 55%, while designated spot crypto assets enjoy a 20% flat rate. Watanabe warned that without tax parity, local liquidity will move offshore, harming Japan's startup ecosystem and Web3 position globally. He also outlined Startale's plan to unify competing yen stablecoins on Soneium to resolve liquidity fragmentation and enable interoperable enterprise use cases including payments, treasury operations, and asset tokenization.
