According to StarkWare, on June 30, the Layer 2 blockchain Starknet unveiled a three-phase roadmap to transition toward post-quantum security. Phase 1, expected within two months, replaces Pedersen hashing with BLAKE2 across key protocol components including state commitments and contract address generation. Phase 2, estimated one month after Phase 1, extends post-quantum protections to existing smart contracts through improved developer tools and migration support. Phase 3 depends on Ethereum's own post-quantum migration, as Starknet relies on Ethereum for bridge messaging and data availability. StarkWare noted that Starknet's STARK cryptographic proofs, which rely on collision-resistant hash functions rather than elliptic-curve cryptography, require fewer structural changes than many blockchain networks to achieve quantum resistance.
