S&P 500 Closes Up 0.1% on June 2; Utilities, Materials Rise Over 1%; Tech Shares Rally on Chip Demand

On June 2, the S&P 500 closed up 0.1%, with utilities, materials, energy and industrials gaining at least 1%, while telecommunications declined 2.6%. The Nasdaq-100 rose 0.5%, with semiconductor stocks leading gains: Marvell Technology surged 32.2%, Lumentum jumped 13.9%, and Applied Materials climbed 7.1%. Cisco and Qualcomm each rose over 3.4%, while Autodesk, Palantir, Workday and Zscaler fell between 4.3% and 7.6%. Among Dow components, Caterpillar led with a gain exceeding 5%, IBM rose over 3%, and Apple climbed 2.8%, while Boeing, Microsoft, Salesforce and Nike each fell over 3%.
