According to Yonhapnews, South Korea's Korean won appreciated 4.27% against the dollar in July, the strongest performance among major 20 currencies, as the KRW/USD exchange rate fell from 1,560 to 1,478.5 won on July 17-18, 2026. SK Hynix's $26.5 billion Nasdaq ADR listing triggered substantial dollar supplies into the local market, with exporters converting foreign currency holdings and reduced foreign investor selling pressure as the Kospi stabilized. The Bank of Korea's interest rate increase to 2.75% on July 16 further supported won strength, marking the strongest monthly depreciation of the dollar against the won in three years and eight months.
