South Korea's KOSPI Falls 28.5% Since June, Down Most Since Pandemic, Sharp V-Shaped Rebound Unlikely

According to Yugin Investment & Securities, KOSPI fell 28.5% between June 21 and July 20, marking its steepest decline since the pandemic ended. Analyst Heo Jae-hwan noted on July 27 that while the market downturn mirrors the sharp but brief 2020 crash rather than the prolonged 2022 decline, a comparable V-shaped recovery is unlikely. Higher interest rate expectations, slowing profitability among U.S. tech giants, and lingering leverage ETF effects will slow recovery, with stabilization expected to take at least one month.
