South Korea Theme Stocks Surge on Honam Semiconductor Project; Hansung Corp Leads with 100% Weekly Gain

According to Korea Exchange, several South Korean theme stocks surged sharply during the week of July 6-10, driven by a government semiconductor initiative and positive social media sentiment. Hansung Corp, a seafood processing company, led gains with a 100% weekly surge, rising from 4,230 won to 8,460 won on largely non-fundamental buying support from online communities. Kumho Electric and Kumho Construction, positioned as beneficiaries of the government's Honam Semiconductor Cluster project, gained 79.62% and 77.05% respectively. The government designated Gwangju military airport land as the cluster site, spurring regional stocks higher. Kumho Tire also jumped 64.56% on geographic proximity hopes. Analysts note such theme-driven rallies lack concrete earnings justification and historically reverse within 3-4 months.
