South Korea Retail Investor ETFs Underperform Benchmark Indices as of July 27

According to Maeil Business Newspaper, on July 27, retail investor-tracking exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in South Korea and the U.S. significantly lagged their respective benchmark indices. RISE Donghak Ant ETF, which tracks domestic retail trading activity, rose only 13% year-to-date, compared to RISE KOSPI's 58% gain. Similarly, KODEX U.S. Western Ant ETF, which follows American retail investor positions, declined 2.7% year-to-date, while KODEX U.S. S&P 500 advanced 11.2%. Both ETFs concentrate holdings in popular stocks favored by retail investors, exposing them to heightened volatility during market downturns.
