SoftBank Reports Full-Year Earnings as Investors Question US$60B OpenAI Funding Plan

According to Bloomberg, SoftBank Group reported full-year earnings for the year ended March as investors scrutinize how the company will fund its planned US$60 billion investment in OpenAI. The company posted net income of approximately 3.3 trillion yen (US$20.8 billion) for the fiscal year, aided by AI-related holdings. SoftBank has secured US$40 billion in bridge financing to support a US$30 billion follow-on investment in OpenAI through its Vision Fund 2, with lenders including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Mizuho Bank. The company’s stock has surged 90% in the past month, though concerns persist over leverage and reports of weaker-than-target revenue at OpenAI.
