According to Economist, SK Hynix raised $26.5 billion through an American Depositary Receipt (ADR) offering on July 10 to fund domestic semiconductor investments. The company plans to deploy most of the capital for production facilities in Icheon and Cheongju, as well as extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment, requiring substantial won conversion in South Korea's foreign exchange market. Financial analysts note the inflow is expected to act as a multi-month buffer against the dollar strength, comparable to the 2020 Fed-Bank of Korea currency swap program that provided $19.87 billion. The company is anticipated to execute conversions gradually through August and September to minimize market impact.
