SK Hynix ADR surged 23% intraday on July 14, its third trading day, expanding the premium over Seoul-listed ordinary shares to nearly 50%, according to SEC filings. The ADR, where each unit represents 0.1 shares of the Korean ordinary stock, had traded at only a 3% premium during its $26.5 billion offering last week. The premium widened due to restrictions on converting ordinary shares to ADR form, creating a significant pricing gap between the two markets. On Tuesday, SK Hynix ADR options also began trading on U.S. exchanges, allowing traders to more easily position on the memory chipmaker's stock price movements.
