According to The Canadian Press, on August 21, 2025, Paris Compliance, a shareholder advocacy group, filed a greenwashing complaint with the Alberta Securities Commission against Cenovus Inc. and Enbridge Inc., alleging the companies misled investors through inaccurate environmental disclosures. The group argues that both companies violated the Alberta Securities Act by using net-zero terminology while their business models and expansion plans remain dependent on fossil fuels. Cenovus has already pulled its net-zero statements from its website following anti-greenwashing provisions under the updated Competition Act.
