SEC Commissioner Peirce Urges Privacy-Enhancing Technologies in Financial Regulation

According to the SEC, SEC Commissioner Hester M. Peirce called for integrating privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) into financial regulation frameworks during a recent speech at Georgetown University Law School. Peirce criticized current regulatory approaches for favoring government surveillance over individual privacy protection, arguing that technology should minimize personal information collection rather than expand monitoring capabilities. She highlighted that blockchain public wallet addresses could reduce investor data exposure while maintaining compliance with know-your-customer and anti-money laundering requirements. Peirce also invited technology teams capable of meeting KYC and AML standards with minimal personal data collection to collaborate with the SEC's Crypto Task Force.
