Samsung Workers Union Seeks Tripartite Talks on Honam Chip Mega Project; 84% Oppose

According to Yonhapnews, Samsung Electronics labor union demanded tripartite consultation with management and government on July 13 regarding the Honam semiconductor cluster Mega Project. The union said it had proposed the talks on July 1 but had received no response to date. A union survey showed 84% of members oppose the project due to concerns over job transfers, working conditions, and treatment. The union also noted that Samsung executives have privately expressed reservations about the project during meetings and that CEO Choi Young-hyun publicly raised concerns about current power supply plans.
