Samsung, SK Hynix Plan Semiconductor Cluster Expansion Worth Hundreds of Trillions Won on June 24

According to BlockBeats, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are planning to expand semiconductor cluster investments in Honam (Gwangju and South Jeolla Province) and Chungcheong regions worth hundreds of trillions of Korean won, with details to be announced at an end-of-month presidential meeting led by President Lee Jae-myung. The companies are considering simultaneous construction of both front-end (semiconductor fabrication) and back-end (packaging) facilities in the proposed clusters. Industry analysts estimate total investment could reach 300 trillion to 400 trillion Korean won, given that building a semiconductor fab costs at least 60 trillion won. President Lee will meet Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on June 25 to discuss investment specifics.
