Russia Approves Crypto Mining Ban in Eight Kursk Border Districts on May 19

GateNews

According to Bits.media, Russia’s Kursk region government approved a ban on cryptocurrency mining in eight border districts and Ligov city on May 19. The ban was implemented to address energy shortages exacerbated by Ukrainian military strikes and infrastructure recovery challenges. Border residents in the nine affected areas currently receive subsidized utilities including electricity, and establishing mining operations would create budget strain. The regional governor did not announce a specific implementation date but indicated the ban could be lifted if energy conditions improve.
