According to Bitcoin.com News, Ripple made a strategic investment in Flutterwave to integrate Ripple USD (RLUSD), its U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, into one of Africa's largest payment networks. The partnership will embed RLUSD into Flutterwave's infrastructure across cross-border payment corridors, with select high-volume payment rails and remittance channels using RLUSD as a settlement asset.
Flutterwave has processed over $50 billion in transactions and operates payment services including local cards, mobile wallets, bank transfers, and remittance channels. The companies plan to use the XRP Ledger (XRPL) for faster clearing, connecting Flutterwave's domestic network with Ripple Payments through a unified API. Ripple's managing director for the Middle East and Africa, Reece Merrick, said the integration aims to establish stablecoin infrastructure for eliminating settlement bottlenecks and enabling faster cross-border commerce across African business corridors.
